What is the normal.dot? Where is it and for what is used?

Over time, every MS Word user asks this question? “Where is the normal.dot or normal.dotm stored?”. The normal.dot / normal.dotm is a document template the default format templates and adjustments of a document. The normal.dot / normal.dotm normally serve as a template for new documents. But where can I find the format template?

The storage location of the normal.dot / normal.dotm is different depending on the version of Word and the operating system.
